Dundurn Press is thrilled to announce that Possessed by Jowita Bydlowska has been nominated for the 2023 ReLit Awards in the Fiction category. Congratulations, Jowita!
Called “a courageous, absorbing novel by one of the most interesting writers currently at work in Canada” by Barbara Gowdy, Possessed tells a story of romantic obsession, mental illness, and self-discovery as one woman travels to a haunted quarantine island. The Globe and Mail calls it “equal parts Harlequin romance, Gothic horror story and Camusian moral tale.” Jowita Bydlowska is also the author of the bestselling book Drunk Mom.
ReLit is short for Regarding Literature, Reinventing Literature, and Relighting Literature. The awards were conceived by Harvey as an alternative to larger mainstream prizes. The ReLit Award is a Canadian literary prize awarded annually to book-length works in the novel, short-story and poetry categories. Founded in 2000 by Newfoundland filmmaker and author Kenneth J. Harvey, they are considered the preeminent literary prize in independent Canadian publishing. The winners of the Fiction category will be announced on September 29th.
