We are thrilled to announce that three of our titles have been shortlisted for the Kobo Emerging Writer Prize, an award created to “kick-start” the writing careers of debut Canadian authors. A Siege of Bitterns by Steve Burrows and Last of the Independents by Sam Wiebe are competing in the mystery category, and Irresponsible Government: The Decline of Parliamentary Democracy in Canada by Brent Rathgeber is a finalist in the non-fiction category.
The awards will be announced on July 7th and winners in each category will receive an impressive $10,000 as well as communications support for their respective titles. According to Kobo, this year “more than 140 entries were received from 40 different traditional publishers, as well as from more than 45 self-published authors.” Best of luck to all the finalists!
