It saddens us to announce passing of Alan Borovoy. He was a Canadian civil rights champion, an officer of the Order of Canada since 1982, and author of Categorically Incorrect: Ethical Fallacies in Canada's War on Terror (Dundurn 2008). Borovoy, who served as general counsel for the Canadian Civil Liberties Association for more than 40 years, was 82 years old at the time of his death.

A lawyer who studied at the University of Toronto, Borovoy dedicated much of his life to civil liberties and representing minority groups. He did this with dedication,  integrity, and humour. Perhaps his work ethic could best be explained in a quote he said to the Toronto Star in an interview last year.

“You don’t have to go through life so dedicated to the cause that you get uptight and develop a bad digestive system.”

He will be greatly missed.
