Who You Gonna Call? Ontario’s Ghostbusters

“Now I know what a ghost is. Unfinished business, that’s what.”
- Salman Rushdie, The Satanic Verses

The all-female Ghostbusters hits theatres soon, so we thought, what better way to celebrate than with ghost stories and ghost busters!

Our book Creepy Capital spooked readers with Ottawa’s dark history in May. They read about former PM William Lyon Mackenzie King communicating with spirits, attending séances, and experimenting with Ouija boards. They shivered over the assassination of federal MP Thomas D’Arcy McGee, one of the Fathers of Confederation. And their blood ran cold when they encountered the sordid history of the Ottawa Jail Hostel. What better way to save the Earth (and possibly Canada) from otherworldly activity than paranormal investigators and groups like the following:

Ontario Ghostbusters

This costuming group consists of die-hard Ghostheads and whose goal is to give fans an up-close and personal experience with screen-accurate equipment and memorabilia. They also raise money for charitable organizations, such as the Canadian Women’s Foundation, Street Cats, and the Vasculitis Foundation Canada.

H.O.P.S.

The Haunted Ottawa Paranormal Society is a free volunteer organization with 25 years of paranormal experience. They conduct scientific investigations and are dedicated to authenticating and documenting evidence of paranormal activity through audio, video, and other electronic means.

O.P.R.I.

Similar to H.O.P.S., this organization is committed to investigating and documenting claims of the paranormal. The team has over 50 years of combined experience and features case files on their website.

Happy ghostbusting!
