June 17, 2019 – Dundurn Press is excited to announce that Colleen Nelson’s Sadia has won the 2019 Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Awards in the Middle Readers category!
Sadia follows 15-year-old Sadia Ahmed as she struggles to navigate high school, her passion for basketball, and her Muslim faith, as well as finding the courage to stand up for herself in the face of discrimination. Praised by Booklist as “Both subtle and distinctive…Compelling and relevant,” and called “[a] breath of fresh air” by author Monia Mazigh, Sadia was also nominated for the 2019 OLA Forest of Reading Red Maple Award.
Colleen Nelson is a teacher and an award-winning YA author whose previous novels include Blood Brothers and Finding Hope. She lives in Winnipeg.
