We are delighted to announce that Myles and the Monster Outside by Toronto author Philippa Dowding and illustrator Shawn Daigle has been nominated for the Silver Birch Express Award, part of the Ontario Library Association’s annual Forest of Reading program.

The second book in Dowding’s Weird Stories Gone Wrong series, Myles and the Monster Outside is a collection of eerie events happening to Myles as he travels on a cross-country road trip with his family. Billed as “Goosebumps from north of the border” (Kirkus Reviews), the creepy story is aimed at readers ages 9 to 12.

Philippa Dowding is an award-winning copywriter, poet, and children’s author. Her YA books have been shortlisted for the Red Maple, Hackmatack, and Diamond Willow awards, among others. Myles and the Monster Outside is also currently nominated for the 2017 Hackmatack Children’s Choice Award.

Canada’s largest reading program, the Forest of Reading encourages a love of reading for all ages and helps celebrate Canadian books, publishers, authors, and illustrations. More than 250,000 readers participate annually through their local school or public library.

The Silver Birch Express Award program is geared toward readers ages 8 to 12 and is made up of both fiction and non-fiction. For a full list of this year’s nominated titles, please visit the Ontario Library Association’s Forest of Reading website.
