Yes it sounds dorky, but … I always wanted to be a business leader!

Most kids I grew up with had dreams of being pop stars or playing professional sports (mostly hockey), but I always wanted to be a business leader. This could have been at least in part because I wasn’t exactly blessed with athletic prowess. Once I started my career, things progressed well: I got a solid position at a head office management-training program of a major bank, and they even sponsored my MBA, but I quickly figured out that I was destined to be an entrepreneur. My intention had always been to enter the wealth-management business, but I quickly figured out that more people needed debt advice than investment advice, so I entered the mortgage industry instead.

Within a couple of years of entering the mortgage industry I was among the top-producing mortgage professionals in the country. Almost all my success had come by deciding to publish mortgage and personal finance columns — I came to learn that there are a huge number people there eager to learn more about fiscal literacy. Whether from good luck or good judgment, my profile really took off. Since writing my first financial column when I was completing my MBA close to two decades ago, I knew I wanted to write a personal finance book and advance the personal financial wellbeing of Canadians.

Reaching a 20-Year Dream

After many months of writing and collaborating with (and many thanks to my coauthor, Simon Giannini, my publishers, and of course my data sources) my first published book hit the shelves February 25th, 2017. I am excited to announce that, based on preorder sales alone … I AM OFFICIALLY A BESTSELLING AUTHOR reaching both Globe and Mail Bestseller and Amazon Bestseller status.

I am elated and proud to think that all the proceeds from the book will go to helping Sick Kids Hospital, and that I am simultaneously advancing the financial well being of Canadians!

My next goal will be to grow the wealth-management side of the business. Today, I am more passionate than ever before about fiscal literacy and educating the public. I want to personally reach out to you and say THANK YOU for being a part of my journey.  I succeeded because of the support of great clients, referral partners, and co-workers along the way.

Thanks very much for supporting my dream!
