Belize: The Last Virgin Paradise

Are you nearing retirement and dreaming of a beautiful, tropical paradise to call home; a place where you can pack away your parka and have the easy, laid back lifestyle of a retiree who chose their location well?  Belize could be the place you are dreaming of! In a time when most beach getaways have been commercialized and many have lost the charm that drew everyone in the first place, Belize has managed to avoid this pitfall. Belize is truly the last virgin paradise, and here’s why:

  • Beaches, sand and an average temperature of 84 F. Need I say more? Who doesn’t dream of living by the water and enjoying a round of golf at any time of the year? There is also plenty to do if beaches or golf aren’t your thing; hiking in beautiful national parks and rainforests, snorkelling, world-class scuba diving, exploring ancient Mayan ruins, shopping the local markets or discovering your new favourite restaurant! Every day is a chance to explore and discover.
  • English speaking. When the locals speak your language and you speak theirs, the transition is definitely made easier! Belize is a former British colony and nearly everyone speaks English.
  • Property rights. Belize has the same property laws as the U.S. and Canada, which is based on British common law. It’s easier to navigate the system when it is similar to your home country! Also, there are no restrictions for foreigners – you can own property, even on the water!
  • Low to no yearly taxes. Belize has special tax laws for retirees and it isn’t hard to capitalize on them. They are straightforward and you will even have duty exemptions for bringing in housewares, a car and other items you may be bringing to your new home!
  • Direct flights. Many airlines now offer direct flights from major Canadian and U.S. cities! Travelling to your new home has never been easier and the grandkids are only one flight away!
  • It’s not commercialized. So many beach destinations have been over run by large all-inclusive hotels that cater to a one size fits all clientele. Belize is different. It has a boutique feel to it. A place where you can find charm and character, while still having many of the creature comforts.

Belize is a beautiful country and the people are friendly and welcoming. If you are looking for a way to make your dollars stretch and to feel like you are always on vacation, look no further! Your new home is waiting for you!
