With a whole slew of new books scheduled for release in 2018, here is a roundup of three exciting titles from across different genres.

Body Swap: At first, an approach to this cover’s design eluded me. How to appeal to a young (ages 12-15) audience, and reflect a book that is darkly comic, with a rather unconventional subject, and main themes that are ethereal and fairly morbid. The solution we found was a mostly typographic treatment with a reference to the afterlife via the fairground featured at the bottom.

Yard Dog: The first book in a thrilling “noir” mystery series by A.G. Pasquella. As discussed in the blog post Creating a Series Look (https://www.dundurn.com/news/Dundurn-Behind-CoversCreating-Series-Look), this cover determines the look of the rest of the series and was designed in tandem with books 2 and 3. Each cover will feature a black and white image with one element highlighted in colour (on Yard Dog it’s the blue eyes), which is reflected in the title font.

Polyamorous: the key in designing this cover was to make it approachable but still reflect the serious content. The international symbol for polyamory, with the title sewn into the infinity loop, along with a bright background, proved to be an effective strategy.
