Editorial Intern, Dundurn Press

 

We are seeking an editorial intern to assist in our busy editorial department. In supporting the entire editorial team, the intern will have the opportunity to work on books throughout their production — from acquisition to final printer-ready files. The internship will also involve supporting our production department with the ebook workflow.

The ideal candidate is focused and proactive, possesses a sharp editorial eye, and has a wide-ranging appetite for Canadian popular culture, current affairs, history, and fiction (literary, mysteries, and YA). Some experience with proofreading or copy editing is an asset.

The editorial intern’s tasks and responsibilities will include the following:

 

Acquisitions

– reviewing submissions and writing reader reports

– suggesting book ideas

 

Editorial Production

– marking-up pdf proofs with corrections

– checking corrections

– making corrections using InCopy

– checking printer proofs

– proofreading

– checking indexes and photo credits

– editing citations

– fact checking

 

Administration and Production

– assisting with awards submissions

– updating our Booksonix database and proofing records
– preparing digital files to send for ebook production
– assisting with prepress flight checks and manual checks, as instructed

 

 

The 12-week internship is full time, 9–5. Successful applicants will be asked to attend a half-hour interview, followed by a copy-editing test that typically takes 45 minutes to an hour. Our offices are located in downtown Toronto.
