Diane Grant has had a successful career across Canada as actress, director and playwright. She was involved with Redlight Theatre, the Toronto theatre group formed to promote plays by and about women, when the idea was conceived to create a play around the life of Nellie McClung, suffragist and social reformer.
What Glorious Times They Had
What Glorious Times They Had Nellie McClung traces the efforts of the suffragists to win the vote in preWorld War I Manitoba. The play combines the themes of politics, prohibition and suffrage, but treats them with liberal amounts of humour, music and vitality. The result makes for a fast-moving, free-wheeling evening’s entertainment.
