It was supposed to be a bad year to release a Bruins book. When we were putting Bruins 365 together during the 2024-25 NHL season, the Boston Bruins were one of the worst teams in the league.
Not only were they bad, finishing fifth-last in the league, they played uninspiring hockey that made it difficult for even the most committed Bruins fans to tune into. And to make matters worse, after they traded away Brad Marchand, their captain and one of the most beloved players in franchise, they had to suffer through seeing him win a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, the same team that upended Boston’s historic 65-win season in 2023 with a first-round upset.
So, as we were putting the finishing touches on Bruins 365, I had low expectations going into this season. I figured that if the Bruins were going to be cellar-dwellers again, a book that included stories about the team’s many accomplishments might make for a welcomed distraction from the product on the ice.
But before the book was even officially released, the Bruins opened the campaign with three straight wins. Perhaps, there might not be as much of a need to dwell on the past as I had initially suspected. The Bruins, however, lost their next six games, and now I didn’t know what to think. After they split the next pair of matchups, they rattled off a seven-game winning streak and suddenly they were the hottest team in hockey.

They are one of only two teams to defeat the Colorado Avalanche, the early odds-on favourites to win the Presidents’ Trophy, in regulation, they have been lights out at home, only losing a handful of games at TD Garden, and they are one of the top teams in the Atlantic Division.
The meteoric ascendancy of Morgan Geekie to one of the league’s premiere goal-scorers has been nothing short of amazing to watch. He’s on pace to nearly match his career high in goals before the calendar flips and could quite conceivably reach the vaunted 50-goal mark this season.
There are rumours, which I started, that the release of Bruins 365 has helped the team. At the time of this writing, the Bruins are 15-9-0 since the book officially hit shelves on October 21. Those numbers don’t lie.
While the naysayers will tell you that the Bruins are exceeding expectations and will come crashing down to Earth sooner rather than later, I’m here for it as long as it lasts. The team is playing exciting hockey and the fanbase is engaged. Had I known it would be this fun to be a Bruins author, I might have done it a long time ago.
