It was a lot of fun to work at the Dundurn booth for Word on the Street this year. I wish I had had more time to wander around Queen's Park it was such a beautiful day, but I did appreciate being in the breezy shade of the tent. This year we had two authors every half hour sit down to sign books and meet readers, everybody from children's author Philippa Dowding to ghost research enthusiast Mark Leslie.
Oh but it was busy at the booth, and bit by bit as the day wore on and the crowds' faces grew sunburnt and the shopping bags of bookmarks and books got heavier and their feet trudgier, I began to appreciate the wonder of a properly built tent. The morning started off rainy, and the evening threatened to rain again, but in the sweet spot of midafternoon Word on the Street under the verdant green of Queen's Park hit it's stride. This is the last year Word will be up at Queen's Park, next year it heads towards the waterfront, so I'm grateful to have had the chance to remember that perfect afternoon, selling books, talking to readers, running into old long lost friends from behind a heap of books I've helped to publish.
Until next year!
