Natasha Henry, author of Emancipation Day: Celebrating Freedom in Canada, will be discussing her recently-released book at the Mississauga Literary Festival.
The book provides insight into the creation, development, and evolution of a distinct African-Canadian tradition and explores the social, cultural, political, and educational practices of Emancipation Day festivities across Canada. Attention is given to the idea of freedom as a continuous journey for African Canadians, from chattel slavery to equal rights.
