Description
Carol and Bruce Hodgins began leading canoe trips in 1957 for Camp Wanapitei on Lake Temagami in Northern Ontario. Paddling Partners tells the story of their shared canoe travel over the past 50 years - the joys, the challenges, the triumphs and the mishaps. Excerpts from daily logs highlight the authenticity of their experiences.
Initially, canoeing took them to the great rivers of northern Ontario and Quebec. Their first venture “north of 60” found them on the Southern Nahanni, soon to be followed by travels on the Coppermine. By the mid-1990s, their tripping took them to Soper River on Baffin Island. Included in their richly descriptive accounts are kayak adventures in California, Mexico and the Queen Charlottes, winter canoeing in and near the Everglades and explorations on Heritage Rivers in the Maritimes.
Paddling Partners outlines specific canoeing routes and countless fascinating adventures. Useful tips on planning, as well as tidbits of know how garnered over years of experience round out this work by these veterans of the Canadian canoeing fraternity. Included are sketch maps and photos by the authors.
