Dr. Michael Craufurd-Lewis is an affiliate of the Arctic Institute of North America in Clagary, Alberta, Canada, and of the Department of Politics, Exeter University, England. He has done extensive research on the Canadian North-West and the North-West Mounted Police (now the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) the result of which is this detailed study of the life of J.F. MacLeod, early Commissioner of the “Mounties” .
