Home of the Floating Lily Shortlisted for the 2021 Danuta Gleed Literary Awards

Dundurn Press is thrilled to announce author Silmy Abdullah has been nominated for The Writers’ Union of Canada's 2021 Danuta Gleed Literary Awards for her debut short fiction collection, Home of the Floating Lily

Home of the Floating Lily is a collection of eight short stories that provide a glimpse into the lives of Bangladeshi immigrants, mostly women, in Scarborough and the ways in which they deal with migration, displacement, and the longing for home as they move between countries, cities, and relationships. Congratulations to Silmy Abdullah!

The Award recognizes the best first collection of short fiction by a Canadian author published in 2021 in the English language. The Award consists of cash prizes for the three best first collections, with a first prize of $10,000 and two additional prizes of $1,000 each. The Award is made possible through a generous donation from John Gleed, in memory of his late wife, and is administered by The Writers’ Union of Canada. The winners will be announced on June 1 at 2 p.m. ET on The Writers’ Union of Canada’s Facebook page. Learn more here.
